It’s supposed to be about lighthearted family fun, but what many don’t realize is that some Disney movies are slightly tainted with the humor of a much older, much lewder demographic.
Of course, Disney never fully claims responsibility for these transgressions, but we’re thinking that somewhere out there, an illustrator or two is sleeping soundly at night, knowing he pulled a fast one on his employer.
Don’t be outraged yet: Most of these are far too subtle to be noticed by the younger crowd. And thanks to the Internet, all of us of PG-13 age or older can see the truth behind these seriously raunchy moments without having to scandalize the youths.
So, if you’re ready to kiss your childhood goodbye, check out these scandalous blink-and-you’ll-miss-them adult moments from your favorite animated classics.
Monsters Inc.
It’s one of the most tear-jerking, heartwarming movies ever — but if you check out the drawing on the left hand side, Monsters Inc. is not as innocent as it seems.
The Lion King
This scene from Lion King revealed some very specially shaped sand dunes that only the most discerning eyes would notice, bringing new meaning to the phrase “Everything the light touches is yours, Simba.”
The Lion King is actually full of this kind of subtlety. Rumor has it Mufasa’s face in the Lion King poster is the outline of a naked woman — looking at it like this, we can’t really deny it’s tru.
And what about this one? The formation of the letters S-E-X, when Simba stirs up the dust that eventually makes its way to Rafiki. Disney says it was supposed to be S-F-X, a subtle homage to the special effects team.
Peter Pan
He’s just dancing around with his shadow in the mirror, but there’s something in the shadow that we can’t (thankfully) see on Peter himself.
The Rescuers
If you look closely at the window behind the two mice from this scene in The Rescuers, you can see a topless woman. Disney claims they have no idea how this happened — maybe someone’s idea of a joke?
The Little Mermaid
It is widely believed that the little bump on the priest in this wedding scene from The Little Mermaid is, well, his boner. Let’s hope the animators weren’t actually that creepy.
Then there’s the matter of the penis in the castle. Production officials claimed that someone outside of the Disney animation team did the drawing — still, that didn’t stop them from replacing it.
Tangled
This is a bit of a stretch, but it is apparently believed that the Tangled poster has the word “sex” hidden in it. We’re thinking that this might be a case of someone seeing what they want to see.
Fantasia
This scene from Fantasia is believed to have animation resembling breasts in the background — if it’s true, those star-shaped nipple pasties are badass.
Yep, they just went ahead and said this one, not subtle at all. Sometimes, a little adult humor that swooshes over kids’ heads can be pretty funny.
The sign for the “top down” truck stop with “all convertible waitresses” seems to be promising a somewhat seedier establishment than what you might expect.
Cinderella
Sure, they were probably just picking up beads, but they definitely looked like they were doing something else.
The Emperor’s New Groove
Bringing a fresher, much more literal meaning to the phrase “pitching a tent.”
Toy Story
Mr. Potato Head doesn’t pull any punches when he has something to say but knows the movie he’s in is PG.
Finally, this gem from a Mickey Mouse cartoon.
This is the kind of thing that let’s us know that some illustrators have a twisted sense of humor. Still, as messed up as it is, it definitely makes us laugh.
